St. Mary's County Sheriff's Deputy Tyler Westphal stopped a 2005 Honda Civic for operating without a front registration plate and additional safety equipment violations around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Lexington Park, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The driver, later identified as James Perry Bond, 33, of Dameron, gave Westphal a false name, officials said.
Westphal noticed drugs inside Bond's car, too, police said. A subsequent search uncovered crack cocaine and related paraphernalia.
A subsequent investigation, including a check of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), revealed that Bond was wanted for an outstanding warrant through the Maryland Parole Commission.
In 2022, Bond was arrested on various drug offenses after he was found with fentanyl, a large amount of cash, and cocaine while riding in a vehicle in Lexington Park, Southern Maryland News Net reported at the time citing the sheriff's office. He was also arrested in October of that year for driving on a suspended license and a drug offense, the sheriff's office said.
Bond was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and charged with CDS: Possession – Not Marijuana and one count of CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.
